Become a natural biologist and explore the world of owls at IRWS

Become a wildlife biologist as we hike the trails to see where owls live. We'll learn about their habitats, view owl mounts, and dissect a real owl pellet to discover what they eat. On our return, we will create an owl collage from natural materials.

 

National Trails Family Fun Day at Ward Reservation

The Friends of The Andover Trails Committee and The Trustees of Reservations celebrate National Trails Family Fun Day. This tear will feature live music, guided hikes, letterboxing, an 'edible plant' guided hike, along with exhibits on woodcarving, and geocaching (bring a GPS unit if you have one), Nordic walking (poles will be available to borrow) and more! Fun for everyone.

 

Explore the wetlands of IRWS at dusk in this overnight camping excursion.

Explore the Ipswich River Wildlife Sanctuary after hours and join us for a night of camping under the stars. Have an early dinner at home and then come with your family, your tent, and a dessert to share. We will explore nature through games and hands-on activities, set up our tents near the Barn before sundown, and tell stories after the sun sets. We will provide a light breakfast.

Free-flow learning at Joppa Flats is fun for the whole family. There's simple science fun with coloring pages and toys for ages 2 to 6; science experiments and group challenges for ages 7 and up; and outdoor exploration, seasonal live animals, and scheduled family presentations for everyone. Fly by for an hour or stay all day for family time that suits your schedule. There's something different to see and do with every visit!  This Week we'll be focusing on the similiarities between sharks, rays and skates.

Discover the creatures of your local pond through art at IRWS

Have you ever seen a water boatman up close? How about a caddisfly larva or water scorpion? If not, then join us for a summer morning of pond dipping. Using hand lenses, microscopes, and strainers, we'll search for turtles and frogs and delight in the sights and smells of a morning on the pond. We will provide sketch pads, pastels, and watercolors so you can recreate your findings in detail.

Abbot Library Teen Program "Travel to India" on  Wednesday, July 20th

The Abbot Public Library will host Noureen Sultana, professional henna tattoo artist, to apply henna tattoos to teens. The Abbot Public Library will also show the movie Bride and Prejudice () and eating Laddu, a sort of Indian doughnut.  The teens will be welcome to try different pizzas from around Marblehead and choose their favorite.  No sign-ups are necessary. Don't miss this amazing marionette performance of "An Arabian Adventure" featuring over a dozen beautifully hand-crafted marionettes and exquisite “story-book” style scenery, that tells the tale of a Persian prince who is thrown into a dungeon because of his love for a beautiful princess. Facing danger at every turn, the courageous prince must battle his way out of the underground prison to save his princess from a tragic fate.

Eric Carle Book Signing 2011

We adore Eric Carle at our house. We're so crazy about him that we are going to make the two hour drive to Amherst on July 16 to visit with him at his next book signing. The book signing day is held at The Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art and only a limited number of tickets will be distributed the day of the event. Tickets are not available in advance.

An Introduction to Classical Music for Kids at Sawyer Free with Green Golly

Concerned that children were growing up without knowing how to listen to and understand classical music, Barbara Siesel and Keith Torgan created Flute Sweet & Tickletoon to present classical music, comedy, and story-theater to children and their families and make it an enjoyable experience for children of all ages.

The music is beautiful to listen to. It's a fun way to introduce your children to the joy and enchantment of classical music.

The Cape Ann Museum is pleased to present the CAM Kids Celebrations Series, a monthly program for families with young children.
