Glen Urquhart School Summer Program

The GUS summer program has a long-standing tradition of combining educational, hands-on workshops with easygoing summertime fun for children ages 4 to 15. The atmosphere is noncompetitive, creative, inquisitive, playful, and relaxed. We offer one and two-week sessions, with half and full-day options. Pre-registration is required for all programs. Hours are 7:45 AM–5:00 PM. Camp begins June 24 and ends August 2. We will be closed on Thursday, July 4.

Annettes Climb to support HAWC NorthShore MA

“Annette’s Climb” is an annual fundraising hike in the name of Annette Soares, a victim of domestic violence, who lost her life ten years ago at the age of thirty-nine. The hike is a metaphor for the struggle and climb Annette, like all victims, endured through abuse. The event and hike are opportunities to build community while raising awareness of the personal and economic destruction that result from domestic violence. Annette’s brother, John Soares, began “Annette’s Climb”.

 

Preschool and older kids will express themselves artistically at HW Library!

The Hamilton-Wenham Public Library Art Club is for preschool aged children and older to experience different ways of artistic expression. The sessions are free-form and drop-in. Each date focuses on a different theme:

John Badalament, author of the acclaimed The Modern Dad's Dilemma: How to Stay Connected with Your Kids in a Rapidly Changing World , will speak at Glen Urquhart School on Thursday, April 25. Badalament is a Harvard-trained educator with 20 years of experience as a teacher, dean of students, and counselor in school and clinical settings for children, teens, and adults. His work has been featured on ABC News, NPR, in Men's Health, Mom Magazine, L.A. Times, and the Boston Globe.

 

Schooner Ardelle will be launched at Maritime Gloucester on April 27 at 12:30!

Maritime Gloucester invites boating enthusiasts of all ages to the Spring launching of the Schooner Ardelle! Harold Burnham and his volunteer crew have been getting his beautiful Pinky Schooner Ardelle ready for another exciting season sailing form Maritime Gloucester and she's ready to launch! The launching will take place at the Maritime Gloucester Marine Railway, the oldest continuously operating marine railway in the United States. Come witness this unique event that's flavored with tradition and history and Gloucester's maritime heritage that ends in a splash!

 

The Annual Cape Ann Farmers Market fundraiser will be held April 28, 2013

The Cape Ann Farmers' Market will be holding their annual fundraiser this year at the Cape Ann Community Cinema! Join then for a dinner and movie at the cinema featuring the film 'Betting the Farm'.  Following the movie, a community discussion will follow featuring the CEO MOO Milk - Maine's Organic Milk Coop. This year's meal will consist of soup, cheese and bread - with locally produced beer and wine. Proceeds from the event will go to benefit the Cape Ann Farmers Market.

Science and Art collide for the 2013 Marine Art Contest hosted by the Massachusetts Marine Educators and Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary! Kids in grades K-12 are invited to submit entries in this year's contest themed 'Amazing Ocean Creatures of Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary'.  Spread the word to teachers, homeschoolers, other students, and parents about this wonderful opportunity to learn and teach others with art!

The Trustees of Reservations need your help to prepare and plant Long Hill and Sedgwick Gardens's Pick-Your-Own Flower Fields. We've extended our garden to bring even MORE fresh flowers to the community this year! We have a range of projects available for all abilities, from planting, weeding, and staking, to deadheading, seeding, labeling, and much more. Dig in and have fun with a great group of fellow volunteers!

Kids will create art at the Essex Shipbuilding Musem each Wednesday afternoon!

See, learn, find, create! Young artists are invited to enjoy drawing, painting, print making, and sculpture using the Museum's shipyard and artifacts for inspiration. All materials are provided for projects. All ages are welcome. Those seven and younger must be accompanied by an adult. A public exhibit of the art work produced will take place at the museum. This program is supported in part by the Essex Cultural Council, a local agency, through the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.
