Family Spring Planting to Benefit The Food Project NorthShore MA

Usher in spring with Women in Action on Saturday, April 6th from 9:30-11:30a.m. by helping The Food Project start seedlings in the greenhouse at Glen Urquhart School in Beverly. Women in Action is dedicated to increasing access to nutritious food and physical activity for underserved children.  Last year, volunteers helped start 4,864 seedlings for The Food Project's North Shore farms in just one morning. Open to individuals, families, and friends (kids age 5 and up).  Free event, RSVP required to clippie@nsuw.org

 

Pirate Camp is a fun play where anything can happen!

Go down by the sea and cast off with Theater Workshop’s production of Camp Pirate...Anything Can Happen! The whole family can set sail with a ship full of wacky pirates for an on stage summer camp experience. The hilarity unfolds as the buccaneers once again set out on an adventure in search of their missing captain. Wise-cracking fish and a story-telling turtle help reveal the mystery of spell-casting mermaids, dancing witch-doctors, and juggling monkeys on Coconut Island. With dazzling costumes, high energy dances and show stopping surprises.... anything can happen!

Maritime Gloucester invites kids in grades 2-5 to a vacation week session about the sea life in Gloucester Harbor - part of a week full of educational sessions during April vacation! What kinds of marine life can be found around Maritime Gloucester’s main pier?  In our digital microscope lab, we’ll get an up-close view of the tiny live plankton found right outside our doors.

Grammy winner Charles Neville joins Henri Smith and his 8 piece band will perform a Mardi Gras concert at the historic Larcom Theatre in Beverly, MA! 50% profits benefit the 4th annual Y TEENS REBUILD NEW ORLEANS trip in April. This will be the fourth year of an extraordinarily successful North Shore YMCA service-learning trip to help rebuild the Katrina-ravaged City. Come see a great show and help this program enrich North Shore Teens by supporting their community service!

The 6th annual pizza taste off raises funds for the American Cancer Society

The Interact Club at Gloucester High School will be holding our 6th annual pizza taste off at Cruiseport Gloucester this year!  Come try different pizza from around Cape Ann, while helping to raise funds for the American Cancer Society through the Cape Ann Relay for Life! Only 300 tickets will be sold, and are available at the door.

 

Come to a Historical Weapons demonstration at the Manchetser Public Library

Manchester Public Library invites young adults to a Weapons demonstration by Gaurd Up! Family Swordsmanship Inc. On Manchester's  “half-day", kids will learn about sword history and techniques from medieval times through live demonstrations. Family Swordsmanship will share replicas of German long swords, Japanese swords, daggers and short swords. Participants will get to practice these sword fighting techniques against the Guard Up! staff using safe, practice swords.

Our afternoon starts off with self-guided activities, challenges, or puzzles that lead us to our topic for the day. As a group, we'll observe, investigate, and compare wildlife, their adaptations, and the changes that they undergo each season. Participants may play the role of a zoologist, a naturalist, or even an Arctic explorer throughout this series. Each experience will leave your young scientist eager for the next session.

The YWCA Children's Center in Newbuyrport will open in Fall 2013!

It already supports a wide array of youth through its after-school and Schools Out summer programs and now the YWCA Greater Newburyport has launched a new child care center for infants and preschoolers in Downtown Newburyport. The center is currently open, and is accepting registration now for next Fall's curriculum!

Celebrate Spring's Vernal Migration at Ipswich River Sanctuary Topsfield!

Each year on the first warm rainy night of spring, wood frogs and mole salamanders begin a mass migration to vernal pools where they breed. If you happen to be out on one of these evenings, the experience can be spectacular. Tonight, a part of the sanctuary will be transformed into a Big Night scene. Participants will take a one-hour guided walk along the Vernal Pool Trail, where they will meet some interesting characters who will share some facts and stories about themselves, vernal pools, and this special time of year.

 

Learn the basics of little league umpiring for baseball and softball in Beverly

Instructor Bruce Doig of the Beverly Recreation Department will teach the basics necessary to umpire Little League and Girls Softball games. Earn money doing something you enjoy. Open to any boy or girl who will be 13 years old by April 1, 2013. Training includes rules of the game, on-field situations and umpiring mechanics for youth games. All participants receive rulebooks.

Hunter's Haven Farm offers week long programs in hunt seat riding lessons taught by qualified, licensed instructors. We keep our classes limited to ensure individual attention.
