The 238th Anniversary Boston Tea Party Annual Reenactment Sunday, December 11, 2011

The Boston Tea Party Annual Reenactment of the December 16, 1773 protest of taxation without representation. The program runs about 75-90 minutes and is suitable for school-aged children and above. The entire program takes place in the comfortably heated Main Hall of Old South Meeting House.

 

Free-flow learning at Joppa Flats is fun for the whole family. There's simple science fun with coloring pages and toys for ages 2 to 6; science experiments and group challenges for ages 7 and up; and outdoor exploration, seasonal live animals, and scheduled family presentations for everyone. Fly by for an hour or stay all day for family time that suits your schedule. There's something different to see and do with every visit!  This month we'll focus on nature in holiday decorations.

Creating art with recyucled materials is good for people and the planet!

Teens in grades 7 through 12 are invited to recycle with style in the program room at Newburyport Public Library. Local artist Pam Farren will teach us how to create upcycled journals using cardboard boxes (e.g. cereal boxes), paper, ribbon, string, and other fasteners. The Rockport PTO Holiday fair hosts many talented artisans from Cape Ann and beyond! Come to the fair to see what they have to offer and bring the kids to take advantage of the great family events and activities we have planned, including live music and a dance performance!

 

Give thanks with yoga and craft this year with Happy Tree Kids Yoga

It's the season for reflecting on all that is good in our lives! We will practice yoga while focusing on feeling grateful. There will be an arts and crafts segment where the children will create Gratitude Mandalas that represent the people, things, places, animals that they appreciate. Pre-registration is required.  Fee includes materials and snack.

Events for families at Peabody Essex Museum in Salem MA monoprinting workshop

The Peabody Essex Museum is hosting a monoprinting workshop to offer kids a chance to experiment with monoprinting, a form of printmaking that can be made only once. Kids will create a one-of-a-kind print to take home.

 

Come meet Clifford at the Children's Museum of NH!

The Children's Museum of New Hampshire is welcoming colossal canine Clifford The Big Red Dog  As part of the Books Alive program sponsored by Irving Oil. The museum will be celebrating Clifford with story readings, creative activities, literacy games and the chance for kids to give costumed character Clifford a hug or a high-five. All the fun is included in the museum's regular admission price of $9 for adults and children, and $8 for seniors. This event is free for museum members and children under a year old.

Come with friends and neighbors to sing holiday songs to start your holiday seas

Gather your family and friends and come over to the Firehouse for a little old-fashioned Holiday Sing-Along to kick off your Holidays with music!  The Youth Choir from the Immaculate Conception Church (Newburyport), directed by Donna Postle, will be there to lead everyone in singing some well-loved carols, with music provided by John Metrano on piano.  Our favorite elf, Terry Blanchard, will once again read “ ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas” while wearing his famous stocking cap knit exclusively for this annual presentation by the North Pole’s very talented Mrs. Elf. 

 

Make Salt Dough Christmas Ornaments

We all have favorite ornaments on the tree that are handmade by family and friends. Every year when we break out the box of ornaments, we have great fun sharing stories about the good times we remember and it brings back very fond memories of crafting with family. It's been great fun to make ornaments for the tree with B and our current favorite is salt dough clay ornaments. It's easy to make the salt dough clay recipe and gathered up paint, glitter and spray varnish and make a morning of it.

The Marblehead Festival of Arts invites families to their holiday arts-and-crafts show at Abbot Hall the first weekend in December. The market place is held in conjunction with the Marblehead Chamber of Commerce Marblehead Christmas Walk, a town-wide event. Each year the market place has a more than 20 local and regional artists who bring their arts and products to Abbot Hall.

Learn about using recycled marine debris to create art at this presentation

Don't miss a special exhibit beginning with a lecture in honor of National Recycling Day. The art show will feature the work of Nina Cassel Samoiloff (read more about her HERE on Good Morning Gloucester) and the pieces she creates using elements she finds washed up on the beaches of Rockport. Her work will be on display in the NOAA Fisheries lobby weekdays from 8:00am – 4:30pm from November 15th until December 15th.

The Ipswich Museum will present an oral history workshop for families.

Come to the  Ipswich Museum as the present an oral history workshop for families. The workshop will complement the museum’s fall exhibit, “People & Place: Oral Histories of Ipswich Seniors.” Workshop participants will learn how to preserve their family’s history by conducting oral history interviews.
