The Cape Ann Relay for Life will be at Gloucester High School - Newell Stadium

 

The Cape Ann Relay for Life is a community event that raises funds funds for the American Cancer Society and creates an opportunity to celebrate those who have battled cancer, remember lost loved ones, and fight back against the disease.  The 2013 Relay will take place at Newell Stadium at the Gloucester High School .

 

Celebrate Earth Day at Lynch Park in Beverly and race to  help a great cause!

The North Shore Community Development Coalition invites families, runners and walkers to celebrate Earth Day at Lynch Park. Run or walk in their 5k race and stay for an Earth Day festival will involving over a dozen vendors encouraging a more proactive, healthy lifesytle, community and planet. The entire event is promoting "GREEN LIVING" with a focus on celebrating Earth Day!

Bring the kids and learn how to build a bluebird house at Mass Audubon's IRWS

Celebrate spring by building a bluebird house with your child. We’ll supply all the materials and instruction to build a nest box for bluebirds and tree swallows. These wonderful nest boxes also attract chickadees, tufted titmice, house wrens, and woodpeckers. A short slide presentation will introduce families to the natural history and behavior of birds in Massachusetts, and we’ll discuss where and how to place your nest box. Dress for the weather because we will take a short walk to look and listen for bluebirds.

 

The New England Forest Exhibit at Harvard's Museum of Natural History

The Harvard Museum of Natural History presents a multi-media exhibition that explores the natural history and ecology of our regional forests, their responses to human activity, and their environmental significance. Visitors are invited to explore the ecology of woodland caribou, wolves, and other wildlife of New England; learn about lichen cities that cling to rocks; and the circle of life within and around a forest pond from tiny aquatic insects to giant moose.

The Trustees of Reservations invites you and your kids to come out to two of their most spectacular coastal reservations to help us celebrate Earth Day 2013. Take this opportunity to teach your children the benefits of stewardship and to have a great time as a family.  At Halibut Point State Park and/or the Coolidge Point Reservation, your help is needed cleaning up shoreline, building a bird box or a boardwalk, or simply drinking in the beauty of our special places. Maritime Gloucester invites kids in pre-k through first grade to a vacation week session about seals and marine mammals - part of a week full of educational sessions during April vacation! What kinds of mammals live in the ocean?  How long can a whale hold its breath?  We'll learn all about marine mammals and how they live in their ocean habitats.

This Vacation Week Flyby will focus on the salt marshes, the important role they play in the ecosystem and the creatures that use them to feed, live and breed.

 

Kids will explore the IRWS and find out what lives in the soil there!

Kids will get their hands dirty and dig into the science of soil at this April vacation session. Meet the critters of the sanctuary that call dirt home. Worms, millipedes, sow bugs, weasels, and voles are a few soil creatures that we will hope to see. Find out what it takes to make a garden grow, before preparing and planting your own take-home garden.

The Children's Museum of New Hampshire is having a major Spring consignment sale of children’s clothing and gear with proceeds to benefit the museum! This sale will offer gently used, good quality children’s clothes, baby clothes and gear, footwear, costumes, toys, nursery furniture and décor, sports equipment, books, music, and videos at outstanding prices. Maternity wear will also be available. People who consign items will earn 60% of the revenue from their sold items. The remaining net proceeds will benefit the Children’s Museum of NH and its vital education and outreach programs.

 

Help the Manchester Mothers Club and add a little silly to somebody's day!

The Manchester Mothers Club has a great fundraiser going on all month long in the towns of Manchester, Beverly, Gloucester and Essex! For just $20 ($25 to remain anonymous) they will send a flock of pink flamingos to decorate the location of your choice for a day. This is a lot of fun and people (especially kids) really get a laugh over being flocked! Flock your friends, relatives, coworkers or anybody that you think needs a little silly fun in their day!

 

Celebrate music and light on the upper green in Newbury!

Note: Due to the weather, the festival of light location has been changed to take place at the Library! The Newbury Town Library invites you to come celebrate music and light on the Upper Green! Karen K & The Jiiterbugs and the Plum Island Pans will play, and we'll end the evening with a lantern parade around the green. Pack a picnic, and grab some friends and family. In the case of inclement weather, the event will be moved to The Newbury Town Library. Lantern making workshops will be held prior to the event. Please contact the library for more information!

Beloved local author and illustrator Ed Emberley and his daughter Rebecca present a special exhibit of illustrations from their collection of frightfully-friendly Monster books. This award-winning author-illlustrator team uses brightly colored simple geometric shapes and thumbprints to teach young artists the basics of drawing. Young visitors will delight in the silly stories and playful images the Emberly's use to help demystify the imaginary world of monsters.

It's your turn to change the world. That's the theme of the 2013 Google Science Fair! Teens ages 13-18 are encouraged to enter as individuals or in teams of 2 or 3 people. Entries rewuire a Google accoutn and a parental permission, and the deadline will be April 30, 2013.

The Firehouse Center for the Arts invites you to the 2013 Earth Port Festival - a day of environmental short films to help celebrate Earth Day in Newburyport! If it has wings, we'll find it, and learn about the different ways creatures use their wings. Using binoculars, nets, and bug boxes, we'll take an up-close look at birds, dragonflies, butterflies, and other insects that make their homes at the sanctuary.
