Guided Kayak Paddle at the Crane Wildlife Refuge

Families with kids aged 10 and up can explore the Crane Wild Life refuge.

Join The Trustees of Reservations and Essex River Basin Adventures (ERBA) for a guided kayak paddle of Crane Wildlife Refuge in Essex Bay. This introductory paddle teaches participants the basics of sea kayaking before setting out to explore what Yankee Magazine called "the best place to kayak in New England."

Maritime Gloucester High School Internships

Maritime Gloucester offers unpaid summer internships for high school students who have completed their freshman year. Interns work as interpreters in the Sea Pocket Lab Aquarium, assist in animal husbandry duties, and participate in the development and care of aquarium exhibits. Interns are also encouraged to attend weekly educational enrichment programs, field studies and career explorations.

Family Campout: Tracks and Scat

Explore the Ipswich River Wildlife Sanctuary after hours and join us for a night

Celebrate Father's Day by spending a night under the stars camping with the whole family. Many cultures and people from the past depended on reading the forests for their survival. Join IRWS on this fun overnight and learn some new skills. Have an early dinner at home, and then come with your family, your tent, and a dessert to share. We will explore nature through games and hands-on activities, set up our tents near the Barn before sundown, and tell stories after the sun sets.

Sea Scouts North Shore Open House

Sea Scouts are back on the North Shore!

It has been many years since Cape Ann operated an active Sea Scout group for youth, and Maritime Gloucester is proud to announce that it is starting a new Sea Scout “Ship” effective immediately.The program is a national co-ed outdoor program for young adults ages 14 to 20 that promotes knowledge of our nation’s maritime heritage and provides young people with positive opportunities through hands-on maritime education, training and experiences.

24th Annual Art in the Barn Exhibit and Sale

Art in the Barn is a fundraiser for the Essex Greenbelt Association Essex Mass

For one weekend every June, the barns at the Cox Reservation are transformed with color and form as paintings in oil, acrylic and watercolor, monoprints, ceramics and pottery, and sculpture in wood and iron adorn the walls, window sills, tables, stairs and every nook and cranny of our rustic barns. Artists generously donate 50% of their sales to support the land conservation mission of Essex County Greenbelt Association.

Essex Bay Bay Sailing Club offers a wonderful value for kids to learn sailing!

The Essex Bay Sailing Club a Non-profit club founded in 2000 reaches out to teach sailing to youngsters in the area surrounding Essex Bay. The goal of the club is to develop sailors who enjoy a strong knowlege of sailing while also learning to appreciate, and protect the beautiful resources of the Essex River.

Family Dusk Paddles: Welcoming the Summer

Take a paddle at dusk and explore the Ipswich River Wildlife Sanctuary!

Explore the Ipswich River at dusk. Bring your family and join us for an evening paddle in a canoe as we learn more about the river and some of its inhabitants. Celebrate the coming of summer with the solstice just around the corner. As we paddle along, we'll look for plants and animals that are equally excited about the approaching season.

Firefly Foray

Come Explore Maudslay State Park on a Firefly Expedition!

Fireflys, also called lightning bugs, appear for only a few weeks in the early summer to delight us with their luminous nighttime dance and light show. During this fun evening family adventure at Maudslay, learn about the life of a firefly and take a firefly walk led by the park interpreter. Bring a net or jar to catch fireflies, and learn how you can help with firefly monitoring. Comfortable walking shoes and bug spray are recommended.  Meet at the park headquarters on 74 Curzon Mill Road.
