This 'Imagine, Sing and Learn' is an active, fun, program where you and your child will learn all about the Merrimack River and how it was formed, how it has changed over the years, and who lives in and needs the river. We will learn how the river can “change” rocks, we’ll play river bingo, and sing a few river songs. We’ll make a fun take-home fishing pole craft, and we’ll enjoy a “fishy” snack!
Lisa Hutchings Teacher-Naturalist from Mass Audubon's Joppa Flats Education Center and the crew of Newburyport Harbor Tours Inc.'s Yankee Clipper invite you and your family for an exciting exploration of the lower Merrimack River ecosystem. We'll practice hands-on science, use interactive propgs, and look for seabirds, seals, and waterfowl on every trip. Enjoy cruising and learning about this vital part of the area's natural history.
Joppa Flats Education Center invites families to join them for a full day of free outdoor and indoor nature activities, art projects, and live insects! July is the time to see such winged wonders as American ladies, swallowtails, monarchs, skippers, and more. At Joppa Flats, you'll see wild butterflies and captive caterpillars, learn about environmentally friendly products and practices for the home and garden, enjoy a guided nature walk on the grounds, and take home a fun craft or two.
Bring your toddler to Cape Ann Museum on the second Thursday of each month from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. for Young at Art, a gallery-based storytime! Recommended for children ages 4 and younger with an adult. This drop-in program is free for members or with Museum admission. Have you ever eaten a hot strawberry? There's nothing better than picking a sun-heated strawberry right off of the vine and popping it in your mouth! We're lucky enough to have a couple of strawberry plants around to satisfy the immediate urge, but if we're looking to make preserves to have on hand through the winter, we head out to one of many places on the North Shore to pick away to our hearts content. June is the month to harvest strawberries in Massachusetts so don't wait too long or you'll miss out!

Your family will see all the exciting sights and sounds of Newburyport and Plum Island as you cruise along the Merrimack River.
Come to the white sands of CRANE BEACH to collectively welcome Springs revitalization with a BLAST of COLOR! Beach Bonfire & Om Drum 1-3pm, Color Blast precisely at 2pm! Bring a drum and join the circle if you like. We will have some number of percussion instruments available to share. Event is FREE. Crane Beach Parking fees apply.
