It's time to Party! Every second Friday through the month of June, the YWCA is giving parents a chance to relax and enjoy a well deserved night out or in, and the confidence of knowing our highly qualified youth services staff have their kids' entertainment covered! This popular program, which includes an hour of swim plus wicked fun activities like raucous Wii competitions, dancing and karaoke jam sessions, also includes a tasty snack to add to the party vibe. For generations children have enjoyed exploring tide pools and discovering the fascinating plants and animals that live in this realm between the tides. A refuge ranger will guide this hands-on program.
Joppa Flats Education Center invites kids 3-6 for a fun-filled morning program that is perfect for you and your active preschooler! Our structured activities include hands-on science, music and movement, a thematic snack, and an outdoor adventure if the weather complies. Keep learning with coloring pages and follow-up activities to continue the fun at home. This particular program will focus on the dragonflies and hummingbirds.
Saturday Morning Science at Joppa | Joppa Flats Education Center invites kids 7-11 for a series of fun-filled science programs with others who are interested in science and wildlife. Participants will get in touch with their "inner scientist"! Twice a month we'll offer a chance to meet live creatures, design something "green", or explore a new field in science. This particular program will focus on amphibians and reptiles.
U. S. National Park Rangers will be running hands-on activities about how cast iron was made at Saugus Iron Works National Historic Site in the 17th century for Trails & Sails 2019. Join us at the Saugus Iron Works for our annual iron pour and get a glimpse of what work was like here in the 1600's. Enjoy various family friendly activities and mold making demonstrations while waiting for things to heat up! Set-up begins at 10:30am and the pour will take place at about Noon. Holiday Fairs at Essex Churches - The warmth of an old country church fair enlivens the town on a cold, winter’s day when all three of Essex’s downtown churches hold their annual Holiday Fair. All three churches are within walking distance with free on street parking. Gift bargains are served up along with homemade food and hot beverages. A dollar goes a long way at this event.

Grab your snow shoes, hiking boots or cross country skis and get the family outside between Christmas and New Years to seek out our elusive herd of wooden reindeer sculptures found throughout the Grass Rides. See how many you can find and leave a bell around each one's neck. Bells can be found at the bulletin board. This Self-guided program takes place on the Appleton Grass Rides entrance off of Highland St. Trustees members park free. Nonmember's are $5. Dogs are welcome in the grass rides!

Pumpkin Fest is a family-friendly afternoon full of fun activities that includes pumpkin carving, activities and games, arts and crafts, a DJ and costume dance party, bouncy house and face painting from 12:30-3 p.m. All activities are open to all and free. The children's costume parade starts at 3:15 p.m. and the pumpkin illumination is at about 5 p.m. at Weaver Pond in Patton Park.
