Come to the Salem Maritime National Historic Visitor Center to imagine what life was like at sea as you rummage through the sea bags of a ship’s boy, a sailor, and a captain. Try writing your name using signal flags used to send messages at sea. Then, make a Sailor Valentine out of sea shells like the ones sailors would create for their loved ones back home.
U. S. National Park Rangers host an event at Saugus Iron Works National Historic Site for Trails and Sails! Join the staff as we compare and contrast the differences of two water sources within the park, the Saugus River and the Saugus estuary. Take part in hands on water testing of two bodies of water less than 200 yards apart. Explore the “checkup” of the water by participating in a few simple tests to determine how healthy the waters are. Part of Trails & Sails.

Kids will visit Cape Ann Museum’s special exhibition Harold Rotenberg: An American Impressionist and learn to recognize characteristics of the painting style known as impressionism. Making full use of the galleries, we will discuss our responses to paintings and compare impressionism to other painting styles. Like Rotenberg, we’ll work en plein air in the Museum's courtyard and sculpture garden (if the weather is poor we'll move indoors to the Activity Center). We'll try out impressionist techniques with watercolors and make a picture to be proud of. A healthy, nut-free snack in the courtyard will be provided.
