If you can build it, you can eat it. Join us for a sweet challenge of building creations with candies, cookies, and more. Each teen will be given “building materials” and creations to make in a timed challenge. Creations will be scored by judges, with a first, second, and third place winner based on performance. For grades 6-12.
In every kind of weather, we love to head outdoors to our spectacular local habitats, so join us for one, two, or more of these nature explorations! Each one will focus on the importance of a sense of place as we explore the ecology, sights, and sounds of our natural landscape. Wildlife, local and migrating birds, collecting techniques, and environmental awareness will be presented in a fun, energetic format that adults and children alike will enjoy. This session is a coastal forest stroll with a discovery session in the marsh.
Owls and flowers and deer, Oh my! You don't have to go to Oz to see these wonderful sights. Come to the Crane Estate Art Show and Sale: Nature's Wisdom and you'll see all kinds of natural wonders in paint, ink, photo, and sculpture.
Join Artist and Art Teacher Mary Ann McCurdle for one or more of these new family art classes this fall. Each class will begin with a short story, followed by a nature walk, and finish up with a related art project as we celebrate the beauty of the season.
Celebrate Halloween with us! Carve a pumpkin to take home for halloween, have your face painted and take a Halloween Photos too. Join educators from Joppa Flats Education Center with your preschooler for an adventure to collect acorns, pine cones, lichen, bark, and moss at Newburyport's Mosely Woods! We'll use our imaginations to create woodland homes and creature friends with the natural materials we find. You'll go home with your fairyland dwellings and a new excitement for finding natural treasues and turning them into creative projects.
Maritime Gloucester and Cape Ann Museum is collaborate for a fun Trails & Sails 2017 event! Following a mid-day sea serpent sculpture parade from the Cape Ann Museum to Maritime Gloucester, families will create mash-up “sea monsters” with inspiration from the creatures in the newly renovated Sea Pocket Aquarium. This event is free and open to the public.
