Adventure Days: Maple Sugaring

Learn how to harvest Maple Sap and convert it to Maple Syrup at IRWS!

Today we'll learn about one of nature's tastiest treats: maple syrup. We'll discover how to distinguish a sugar maple from all the other trees in the forest and tap one to collect the sap. After a visit to the sugarhouse, we'll know how sap is converted into syrup and try some on our very own pancakes. We'll see who can tell the difference between store-bought syrup and the real stuff!

Marblehead YMCA Nerf Blasters Class for North Shore Children

Lynch/van Otterloo YMCA is excited to offer Nerf class! Each week participants will engage in competitive activities that promote a positive, exciting and fun training environment through the thrill of Nerf toys. Nerf class challenges students physically and mentally in an environment that promotes education through entertainment.

Open Studio for Kids

This month's open studio is all about artistic expression with landscapes.

Kids are invited to tthe Cape Ann Museum for two-hour "hands-on" class, where students will use a variety of artistic media to explore a central theme. During this open studio, kids will focus on the art of sculpture. This program is free and open to the public.

Boppin' Babies with the Kiwi Girl

Parents are encouraged to interact musically with their infants in these session

Music is among the first and most important modes of communication experienced by infants. Research in developmental psychology has discovered the importance of making music an integral part of the earliest education for young children. In this class, parents interact with their babies in playful activities which include lullabies, bounces, tickles, movement and more to nurture your child’s development. Bring your baby and join in for lots of musical fun!

All spiders spin silk, but not all make webs to catch their prey. How does a spider spin a web and not get caught in it? Come and find out the other ways these fascinating little animals use their magic threads at Ipswich River Wildlife Sanctuary.

Sense of Wonder Walk: Summer's Grand Finale

Come explore IRWS and see it's creatures preparing for the change of seasons

Monarch butterflies are feeding along their migration routes. Plants are still flowering and dispersing seeds, insects and spiders are laying eggs, and the forest is abuzz with activity. Using sweep nets and hand lenses, we will investigate field and forest, determine air temperature by counting the chirps of a cricket, explore life under a log, and much more.

Imagine, Sing, & Learn 6C: Beat the Heat!

Beat the Heat at this Imagine Sing and Learn at Joppa Flats Education Center

This parent/child program is designed for the creative, curious, and active preschooler. Each 90-minute session offers a structured series of activities including original songs, movement, dramatic play, hands-on science, and a thematic snack. When it's time to go home, you'll receive coloring pages, song lyrics, vocabulary, a fun fact sheet, and a suggested reading list via email.
