PEM invites families to celebrate Indian culture at Sensational India Festival!

Peabody Essex Museum celebrates an unparalleled 200-year legacy of cultural exchange with India through the 'Sensational India!' Festival! This year's festival celebrates the creativity and dynamism of contemporary India during this annual weekend-long festival. We'll present pioneering artists, electrifying performances, provocative ideas and creative family-friendly experiences. Inspired by the modern and contemporary Indian art in Midnight to the Boom, explore today's India through dance, food, musical performances, visual art and storytelling.

Cancer Prevention Cooking Demonstration

The first line of defense in preventing cancer is making the right food choices.

Together, Anna Jaques Hospital and Commonwealth Newburyport Cancer Center, present an engaging event to educate the community about cancer prevention. The FREE seminar and cooking demonstration will be led by local holistic health counselor Tanya Tzitzon. She will give a brief overview of basic foods, like fresh or frozen vegetables and fruits, whole grains, healthy good quality fats, legumes, quality proteins and  herbs and spices that should be incorporated into your diet and why.

Winter Solstice Night at the Museum & Revels' Headgear Gallery Performance

Celebrate the Winter Solstice at the Harvard Museum of Natural History!

Celebrate the winter solstice during extended hours at the museum. In collaboration with The Christmas Revels, the Pinewoods Morris Men will perform the traditional Abbots Bromley Horn Dance in the museum's Headgear: The Natural History of Horns and Antlers gallery at 6:00 pm.

Shen Yun: Traditional Chinese Performing Arts

Learn about the history and performing techniques of Shen Yun at Abbot Library

Join the Abbot Public Library in appreciating traditional Chinese culture through an illustrated talk by members of Shen Yun, the world-renowned Chinese performing arts group. Shen Yun will be coming to Boston, to perform at the Boston Opera House on the weekend of January 20, 21 and 22.  This event is suitable for children aged 10 and older.

Art Show Featuring Recycled Beach Finds

Learn about using recycled marine debris to create art at this presentation

Don't miss a special exhibit beginning with a lecture in honor of National Recycling Day. The art show will feature the work of Nina Cassel Samoiloff (read more about her HERE on Good Morning Gloucester) and the pieces she creates using elements she finds washed up on the beaches of Rockport. Her work will be on display in the NOAA Fisheries lobby weekdays from 8:00am – 4:30pm from November 15th until December 15th.

Corallivore’s Dilemma: Understanding the Relationship between Fish and the Corals They Consume

Coral-eating (corallivorous) fishes have interacted with tropical corals for millennia. However, as coral cover globally declines and corallivore abundance changes, there is a need to understand the patterns, causes and consequences of corallivory (and little is yet known).
