Have you ever wanted to try snowshoeing but didn't know where to start? Join us for a leisurely snowshoe hike through the sanctuary. Along the way, we will search for animal tracks and keep our eyes open for wildlife. If you don't own snowshoes, we'll provide them for you. Snow or no, we will enjoy a wonderful winter hike and end with some hot chocolate at the end to warm up!
Grab your snow shoes, hiking boots or cross country skis and get the family outside between Christmas and New Years to seek out our elusive herd of wooden reindeer sculptures found throughout the Grass Rides. See how many you can find and leave a bell around each one's neck. Bells can be found at the bulletin board. This Self-guided program takes place on the Appleton Grass Rides entrance off of Highland St. Trustees members park free. Nonmember's are $5. Dogs are welcome in the grass rides!
Stop by The Stevens-Coolidge Place from Saturday, December 22 to Sunday, January 6 to get a jump start on those 2019 resolutions! Just inside the white gate, at the Little Free Library, you’ll find a scavenger hunt list to get you started exploring all that 2019 has to offer. On the sheet you’ll find a list of 15 common resolutions, turned into a call to action that will take you through the property. Borrow one and find what’s in store for you in the new year! This activity is suitable for all ages and is best completed in groups of 2 or more.
Kick off the new year with Winter Happenings at the Cape Ann Discovery Center at Ravenswood Park--Nordic skiing, snowshoe rentals, outdoor children's activities. Warm up afterwards with hot cocoa by the woodstove. [Fee for snowshoe rentals--Members $10, Nonmembers $20.]
