Slow Art Day Sketching

Sketching art is a great tool for observing and interpretation!

Slow Art Day is a worldwide celebration of art that encourages people to look at art SLOWLY. At PEM the goal is to get "inspired not tired." We'll give families fun suggestions and sketching activities to make looking at art slowly a great sharing experience.

American Girl Trunk Show with Loop Consignment

Enjoy an American Girl Trunk show and fashion walk. Shop the latest handmade doll clothing, accessories and furniture for your 18 inch doll.  Get her dressed and walk the runway showing off her new outfit.  Take home a picture of the two of you and enjoy free refreshments and snacks. 

The first 25 guests will receive a swag bag containing coupons and free items from local businesses.

Shapeshifting at PEM After Hours

Peabody Essex Museum will change your perception of Native Art in this exhibit!

The Peabody Essex Museum (PEM) celebrates the closing week of Shapeshifting: Transformations in Native American Art with extended evening hours on Thursday, April 26, and Friday April 27. Join us from 5 to 9 pm for your last chance to experience the exhibition that critics are calling “one of the most thrilling shows you are likely to see this year.” Shapeshifting closes to the public on Sunday, April 29, after an exceptional run.

National Park Junior Ranger Day

Become a Junior Ranger at Salem Maritime or Saugus Iron Works!

Junior Ranger Day is part of National Park Week and is geared toward engaging kids to learn history, teach them stewardship and have fun while exploring their nearby National Parks.  On the North Shore, families can visit Salem Maritime National Historic Site or Salem Sound Coastwatch for free fun activities throughout the day!

Explore the wonders of our blue planet and celebrate Earth Day with performances, art, demonstrations, exhibits and lots of fun things to do designed just for kids! Meet artists, get a close look at New England's secretive vernal pool inhabitants from the Cape Ann Vernal Pond Team , create artworks to take home and more!

Celebrate Japan's 100 year old gift of cherry Trees to the US at Peabody Essex

Join Peabody Essex Museum to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Japan's gift of 3,020 cherry blossom trees as a gift to the United States to honor the nations' growing friendship. We'll create our own cherry blossoms to take home and welcome spring!

Sector 7 by David Wiesner is the subject of this week's Story Trails

The lookout signals, the cannon fires — what happens next? Artworks can tell stories without words, and sometimes books do, too! Find out how this works as we read David Wiesner's Sector 7 ( Sector 7 (Caldecott Honor Book) ), and learn to "storyboard" like an illustrator with guest artist Katy Bratun.  Reservations by March 16!

Free Book Swap with Salem Recycles

Salem Recycles is offering people the chance to exhcange books for free!

SalemRecycles is hosting their semi-annual book swap. If you have items to drop off, you may do so on Saturday when you arrive or the Friday before between 6-7 pm. You are not required to bring books in order to take books.
