Learn about colonial gardens at Saugus Iron Works as part of Trails and Sails!

U. S. National Park Service hosts  a 45 minute slide lecture will be provided in the auditorium on gardens of the Colonial period, from early settlement until the time of the Revolution. The purposes of these gardens, popular garden styles and layouts, and a selection of popular and useful plants, will be among the topics discussed.

Learn about water and science at Saugus Iron Works as part of Trails and Sails!

U. S. National Park Rangers host an event at Saugus Iron Works National Historic Site for Trails and Sails! Join the staff as we compare and contrast the differences of two water sources within the park, the Saugus River and the Saugus estuary. Take part in hands on water testing of two bodies of water less than 200 yards apart. Explore the “checkup” of the water by participating in a few simple tests to determine how healthy the waters are. Part of Trails & Sails 2017.

Saugus River Estuary Walk

Take a hike alon the Suagus River Estuary with a National Park Ranger!

Join a ranger in a short walk down a nature trail, as we discuss different plant and animal adaptations for living in a tidal riparian zone. Learn about some of the different plant and animal species that call the Saugus River home, and come see why it makes a great habitat for a diverse array of species. This walk will be fun for all ages, but is not stroller friendly. Find Your Park and celebrate the National Park Service Centennial!

Cast Yourself as an Ironworker!

Come to an iron casting demonstration at Saugus Iron Works

U. S. National Park Rangers will be running hands-on activities about how cast iron was made at Saugus Iron Works National Historic Site in the 17th century for Trails & Sails 2017. Come spend the day at Saugus Iron Works National Historic Site. Carve your own mold on the day of the event - first come, first served. Hear the roar of the small furnace and feel the heat of the iron radiating from the ladle as molten iron flows once again into sand molds. It's not something you can see very often!

Gold Star Run for Honor

Start Your Memorial day with a run/walk to honor a local veteran

Start your Memorial Day weekend with a 5k, 10k, 15k or kids fun run or walk to honor the memory of a local Saugus veteran. Scott J. Procopio was on his second deployment as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom, having previously served in Fallujah in 2005. He was killed in action as a result of a roadside bomb on the morning of April 2, 2006 in Ramadi Iraq. The Race will start in Saugus Center.

Memorial Day is a big celebration in Saugus, MA. Come thank our veterans.

The Saugus Veterans Council Memorial Day Parade will start on Jackson Street at 9:00 am to Cliftondale Square along Lincoln Avenue to Central Street then onto Winter Street to the Veterans’ lot at Riverside Cemetery for graveside services including an invocation and a '21 Gun Salute'. The parade will re-form and march to Saugus Town Hall for the memorial ceremony with Grand Marshall WWII Veteran Louis DeSouza, Sr.

Breakheart Reservation invites you to a pancake breakfast, that isn't about the pancakes - it's about the syrup! The reservation runs its own maple sugaring operation that produces syrup right on site. Come visit the sugar shack, then sit down for a hearty pancake breakfast featuring the freshest real maple syrup that you can get! The admission directly supports the event and the maple sugaring operation.
