Come to IRWS for a n evening paddle in their canoes

Explore the Ipswich River at dusk. Bring your family and join us for an evening paddle in a canoe as we learn more about the river and some of its inhabitants. Celebrate the coming of summer with the solstice just around the corner. As we paddle along, we'll look for plants and animals that are equally excited about the approaching season.

Parent/Child Build a Bat Box

Bring the kids and learn how to build a bat box house for bats at IRWS.

Bats are wonderful animals to have around your home because they eat thousands of mosquitoes and other insects nightly and are fascinating to watch. We'll begin our evening with a brief slide show, and then participants will receive all the materials they need to build a bat box. As the sun begins to set, we'll take a walk to discuss placement and monitoring of bat boxes and use a bat detector to search for bats hunting in the early evening sky.

Audubon Nature Festival 2011

This year's Audubon Nature Festival 2011 features live owl demonstrations

Topsfield Memorial Day Parade

The annual Memorial Day Parade starts on Grove Street and continues along Main Street to the Veterans Memorial Green for a service.  The parade reforms, and will continue to Pine Grove Cemetery for another service. All residents and especially military families are invited and encouraged to attend. The parade will be followed by refreshments at Proctor School.

Sense of Wonder Walk: Leap Into Spring

Cherry Blossom buds are one of Springs harbingers of things to come.

Celebrate the arrival of spring on May Day at Ipswich River Wildlife Sanctuary! We'll explore wetlands, fields, and woods and look for signs of the changing seasons. After the walk, the group will return to the Nature Center to make May baskets.

Fours and Fives in Spring (Fridays): Salamanders in Springtime

This week we'll explore vernal ponds and look for salamanders at IRWS

Join sanctuary field teachers as we explore the wonders of spring as it unfolds throughout the sanctuary. Each session includes a story, a themed activity, and plenty of time spent outdoors learning about nature. Each participant will receive a journal. We also offer a Tuesday morning series.
