The Amesbury Post of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) hosts the Memorial Day celebration. The day’s events will begin at 7:30 a.m. at Alliance Park, where a ceremonial wreath representing lost sailors and Marines will be tossed into the Merrimack River. Post 2016 will render a rifle salute. There will then be a brief ceremony at the VFW Cemetery followed by a rifle salute. From there, another brief ceremony will be held at the Polish War Memorial on Market St. at 8:30 a.m. followed by a rifle salute.
At 9am, the Lord Mayor of Amesbury, England will be laying a wreath at the Doughboy in front of the Middle School in honor of the 350th Anniversary of Amesbury, MA.. At 9:30 a.m., parade participants will muster in front of the Fire Station. The parade will start at 10 a.m. and march down to Landry Stadium for the Memorial Day ceremony The parade will begin in front of the Amesbury Fire Department, 17 School Street.
- In the event of inclement weather the parade will be held in the Amesbury Middle School.
- Veterans of all ages are encouraged to march in the parade, with or without uniform, but wearing a hat or other piece of clothing that would identify them as a veteran would be helpful.
- All those marching in the parade should muster in front of the fire station at 9:30am.
