Octopus and Squid Printing Lab at Maritime Gloucester

This baby squid was captured in Gloucester Harbor in the Summer of 2012

Maritime Gloucester invites kids to a vacation week Octopus and Squid Printing Lab - part of a week full of educational sessions during February vacation! Did you know that some squid glow in the dark, cuttlefish communicate through color, and that a certain octopus can mimic a variety of sea creatures?  Children will investigate the cephalopods, a group of intelligent mollusks that includes the octopus, squid, nautilus, and cuttlefish.

Using actual octopus and squid specimens, they’ll explore the structures that help these creatures survive.  Afterwards, we’ll paint and print the octopus and squid using ink and paint and discuss how cephalopods use their own ink when threatened.  Children will be able to take their squid and octopus prints home.

  • For kids in 2nd – 5th Grade
  • Drop-off program
