Manchester was the summer home for Charles Hopkinson(1860-1962), best known as the "dean" of American portrait painters. During his 60-year career, the artist was all over the country in the homes of educators, politicians, and businessmen to paint more than 450 commissioned portraits, Hopkinson also did self-portraits and watercolors, and many of the latter were inspired by ocean views from his Manchester home. "View From the Terrace: The Paintings of Charles Hopkinson" includes painting from the family collection.
