Sandy Point State Reservation

Sandy Point is at the very southern tip of Plum Island, a classic Atlantic Ocean barrier island. The 77-acre park is among the state's most beautiful and popular coastal beaches. Passive recreational activities include walking, beach combing, fishing and birding.

Sandy Point is an important nesting area for the piping plover, a threatened species, and the least tern, a species of special concern in Massachusetts. Due to the piping plover's status as a national threatened species, this area may be closed from late Spring to mid summer, so visit the site listed below before making the trip.

While technically Sandy Point is located in Ipswich, Massachusetts, one can only access it through the abutting Parker River National Wildlife Refuge in Newburyport or by boat.
