Rescue Railroad Model Train Layout at Wenham Museum

Wenham Museum in Wenham MA.

Calling all Train fans. Come to Wenham Museum Veterans Day weekend to explore the dramatically humorous model train layout, “Rescue Railroad.” See classic and contemporary model trains racing around the tracks, rescuing passengers from burning buildings throughout the busy town! Loops of standard-gauge track will be set up around the outskirts of a quaint village with shops, diners, and old-fashioned fire stations, including a fire house built completely out of Lego bricks.

Model train and toy fans will appreciate the fine art of life in miniature in a display of classic and contemporary toy fire trucks and model fire stations on loan to the museum from North Shore collectors.  The “Rescue Railroad” model train layout has something for everyone in the family to enjoy and will be on display one weekend only.

While at the museum, rail-fans will enjoy a visit to the museum’s Bennett E. Merry Model Train Gallery featuring 10 model train layouts that all run at the push of a button, a display of model train memorabilia, and an exhibit of the historical connection that Boston’s North Shore shares with the making of the Transcontinental Railroad.  Hurry in to see “Rescue Railroad” before it leaves the station!

The Wenham Museum is a family-friendly museum of childhood and New England family life located on Boston’s North Shore since 1922. Visitors delight in the museum’s 10 model train layouts that operate at the push of a button, a world-renowned doll collection, vintage dollhouses, a costume and textile collection, antique toys, historic photographs, and the National Historic Register Claflin-Richards House. Sixteen annual rotating exhibits and related family programming help to interpret the museum's mission to protect, preserve and interpret the artifacts of childhood, domestic life, and the history and culture of Boston’s North Shore. Throughout the year the museum offers changing exhibits and family-friendly programming that celebrate childhood, connect generations and honors local heritage.

Wenham Museum was among the first museums to be accredited by American Association of Museums and remains one of only six percent of American museums to be so honored. AAM recognizes the highest professional standards in curatorial, educational, and administrative operations.
