Award-Winning Authors: American Library Association's Kids' Book Awards

Caldecott and Newbery Medal Winners 2014. American Library Association's Kids' B

Awarded by the Association for Library Service to Children, these awards have been recognizing an important literary genre since the early 20th century. Awarded since 1922, The Newbery Medal is awarded each year for “the most distinguished American children’s book published the previous year.” The Caldecott Medal followed almost 15 years later as many began to recognize that the artists creating children’s illustrated books were worthy of honor and recognition as well.

Kate DiCamillo awarded the 2014 John Newbery Medal for [amazon B00BUV9644 inline]. The John Newbery Medal, is given to the author of “the most outstanding contribution to children’s literature."

In 2011, Rita Williams-Garcia won the ALA’s Coretta Scott King (CSK) Author Award for One Crazy Summer. The award recognizes "an African American author and illustrator of outstanding books for children and young adults." This year, she won again for the historical-fiction book’s sequel, [amazon 0061938629 inline].

The 2014 CSK Illustrator Award went to Bryan Collier for the picture book [amazon 0316209171 inline].
