Fish and Fishing Gear at Maritime Gloucester

Net are ther most common instrument for catiching fish in the ocean.

Maritime Gloucester invites kids to a vacation week session about Fish and Fishing Gear - part of a week full of educational sessions during February vacation! How do different types of fishing gear work?  How does fishing impact marine habitats?  In this interactive workshop, children will tour our gallery and invent their own fishing gear.

In the Fitting Out exhibit, they will learn about historical fishing techniques and the history of fishing in Gloucester and then become familiar with some of our local species by looking at models.  They will then build their own fishing gear to use in a model ocean and look at the benefits and drawbacks of the fishing methods that they used.

  • For kids in 2nd – 5th Grade
  • Drop-off program
