The Observatory, located on the top floor of the Mendel Science Center at Merrimack College, houses an Optical Guidance Systems 20-inch Ritchey-Cretien reflector and a number of electronic imaging systems, and is used by students, faculty, the North Shore Amateur Astronomy Club, and the general public.
The Gloucester Area Astronomy Club was founded in 2003 as an informal, loosely-structured group. Some members have telescopes or binoculars, some do not, but all share an interest in the night sky. The only club bylaw states that if we ever come up with a formal constitution or bylaws, they must fit on one side of a standard 3X5 card. GAAC owns no property and there are no dues or fees.
