First Day Hikes take place at nearby State Parks nationwide on New Year's Day. The annual hike originated more than 20 years ago at the Blue Hills Reservation in Massachusetts. The program was launched to promote both healthy lifestyles throughout the year and year-round recreation at state parks. On the North Shore, there will be First Day hikes at Halibut Point State Park, Downtown Essex & Harold Parker State Forest.
Halibut Point State Park Seaside Stroll | 10-12:30pm

Breakheart Reservation First Day Hike | 10am-Noon
Come spend New Years day out doors. Join us for a nicely paced hike to celebrate the New Year, afterwards join us in the Visitor Center for a cozy fire and some hot cocoa. (2 or 3 mile hike, two trail options).
Harold Parker State Forest | 10-11:30am
Celebrate the New Year with a First Day Hike at Harold Parker State Forest as we walk from Berry Pond to Salem Pond and back! The hike is about two miles, about 90 minutes long.
- Be prepared for cold weather: dress in layers and wear winter boots
- Heavy rain/snow cancels
