Winter Solstice Hike | Ward Reservation

Come for a solstice hike at Ward Reservation to celebrate the Winter Solstice in North Andover Massachusetts

The Explore! North Shore hiking series will get you outside and moving at some lesser explored Trustees properties across the Northeast Region, at the right time of year to see these special places shine. These beginner hikes will not be too strenuous, and will offer frequent stops for learning and taking in the beauty of our special places.

Join the Trustees to celebrate the Winter Solstice, the time of year when the midday sun is at its lowest point in the sky. The solstices mark key turning points in the year and have been celebrated by many cultures throughout history. The Winter Solstice marks the shortest day (and the longest night) of the year. We will celebrate the season with solstice history and lore, a solstice story, and a walk up Holt Hill to enjoy the beauty of nature in winter and the solstice stones, while taking in the magic of Ward Reservation.

Be sure to wear weather-appropriate clothing, and boots or shoes that are appropriate for hiking in potentially wet, snowy and muddy spots, or over uneven terrain. We recommend you bring your own water bottle, snacks, and anything else you need to be comfortable outdoors. All hikes are weather permitting.

Accessibility: This hike has an easy level of difficulty and requires hiking 2-3 miles on unpaved and potentially muddy/snowy trails, with moderate elevation gain for approximately 2 hours.

Space is limited for this event and pre-registration is required.

All children must be accompanied by an adult. This is appropriate for adventurous kids as young as 6 years old but is geared towards learners of all ages including adults. As such, adult discretion on your child’s ability to manage this activity is advised.
