Family Nature Series - Vernal Pools

Families will learn about vernal pools with ECGA at Farnsworth Reservation! Photo: Bill O'Connor

Greenbelt and North Shore Nature Programs present this outdoor Vernal Pools program for families. Come discover what lives in these ponds that appear in the spring and then disappear by summer. We'll scoop up some pond water to see who lives there, we'll look under nearby logs for wiggly salamanders, and we'll touch slimy frog egg masses (the ones that don't have frogs in them-- no frogs will be harmed!). Wear your Wellington boots so you can go right up to the edge of the pond!

Spring Equinox Family Fun at the Crane Estate

Come enjoy a day of family fun celebrating the Spring Equinox at the Crane Estate in Ipswich Massachsuetts

The spring equinox is the day when the day and night are the same length – a perfect time to celebrate all things spring. We’ll start off learning about spring and seed growth, then plan our own seeds in decorated flower pots to bring some spring home with us. Then we’ll get outside together to explore the Castle Hill gardens and look for signs of spring before wrapping up with a snack.

Join the Trustees of Reservations at the Crane Wildlife Refuge in Ipswich Massachusetts in search of the Snowy Owl!

Join The Trustees of Reservations at Crane Wildlife Refuge on the Crane Estate in search of the Snowy Owl! Wide-open coastal sites are the location of choice for wintering Snowy Owls; common perches are dunes and salt hay staddles. In winters past, the owls have been frequent visitors to the Crane Wildlife Refuge. Join us as we hike the dunes in search of these magnificent birds. Unlike most owls, snowy owls are diurnal (they hunt and are active both day and night) so we have a good chance of sighting one even in the daylight hours!

Wild Rumpus Walk

Come join the wild rumpus at the Stevens-Coolidge Place in North Andover Massachusetts

Note: this event has been canceled! What’s a Wild Rumpus you ask? Well it’s any sort of commotion with loud noise. It’s how we let loose and go wild. Sometimes winter can build up energy inside us and we simply must let it out! The Wild Rumpus Walk will allow just that. Beginning with a reading of Where the Wild Things are and building our own noise-makers, participants will then set off on a walk throughout The Stevens-Coolidge Place property to enjoy a good rumpus. This program will take place inside and outside, please dress for the weather. Recommended for ages 6-8.
