Come explore Ward Reservation's Sanborn Trail with Friends of North Andover Trails. Starting from the Boston Hill trail head at Brightview, we'll hike to the scenic Holt Hill solstice stones to enjoy the view of the Boston skyline. Meet a Sandpiper!

Come meet a sanpiper and learn about shore birds at Parker River Wildlife Refuge!

You're invited to Sandy Point State Reservation to celebrate World Shorebird Day. Come see a shorebird up close and personal. Every year, tens of thousands of shorebirds stop over at Parker River to eat and rest on their journey from the Arctic to South America. Refuge biologists are studying how and where these birds migrate. Come learn more about this  research and these amazing birds up close. Meet at the Bill Forward Blind. Docents will escort visitors to the banding site on a rotating basis.

Beach Discovery at Parker River

Parker River National Wildlife Refuge and Mass Audubon team up to teach visitors about the different creatures that live on the beach

Parker River National Wildlife Refuge and Mass Audubon's Joppa Flats Education Center are collaborating to offer visitors an opportunity to discover the different animals that live on the beach. Visitors can stop by the tent adjacent to the first boardwalk to the beach. Through hands-on educational activities, visitors will discover different habitat zones and what animals use these habitats.  Visitors will have an opportunity to explore and touch live tide pool animals such as crabs, hermit crabs and sea urchins provided by Mass Audubon's Joppa Flats Education Center.

Pet Cemetery – Moseleys’ Four-footed Friends

Learn the history of the Mosely family pets at Maudlsay State Park in Newburyport

Maudslay State Park actually has a pet cemetery! The Moseley family enjoyed their many pets and established an area of the estate specifically for them.  The park interpreter will lead a walk to this area and share stories and photos of their four-footed friends.  Wear comfortable walking shoes and bring water.  Children must be accompanied by an adult.

What Do We Know About Whales?

 Kids will learn about whales at the Parker River National Wildlife Refuge in Newburyport.

During this fun, hands-on program we will learn all about whales.  We will use different tools to help us understand how big adult whales get.  Each participant will choose their own special whale.  After coloring-in their whale, they will place it on the particular ocean it calls home.  There will be a fun activity for each child to make and take home.  “Friends of Whales” certificates will be given out at the end of the program.  This program is appropriate for home-schooled and other children in grades K-3.  Parent or adult chaperone must stay with their child during the program.  Children and accompanying adults will find themselves joining in the fun activities.

Eco-Art: Nesting Time

Families will examine our collection of bird nests to study how they're built and what materials were used in their construction. We'll explore the trails looking for nests and places where birds might build them. On our return, we will create our own nests using natural materials.

Essex County Trail Association Jamboree at Groton House Farm in Hamilton Massachusetts!

Come Walk, Run, Bike and Ride on guided trail adventures (for all levels) followed by a party featuring live music, live animals, games, great food trucks and local beer from the Tapmobiles of Ipswich Ale Brewery. Trail activities from 1-3pm and party from 3-6pm. Get outdoors and have fun while supporting ECTA and the 450 miles of trails that we maintain for your access to walk, run, cycle and ride!
