The Amesbury Memorial Day ceremonies will begin at Alliance Park at 7:30 AM where a wreath will be tossed into the Merrimac River in memory of lost sailors and Marines. From there, brief services will then be held at St. Joseph’s and Union Cemeteries and then proceed to the Doughboy/Justin Park at the Middle School, and then at 8:30 AM to the Polish War Memorial on Market Street.
The Amesbury Memorial Day Parade will begin at 10 AM starting at the fire station and ending inside Landry Stadium. Those participating in the parade should muster at 9:30 AM in front of the fire station. Participating in the parade will be the AHS Band, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, local dignitaries and others.
Guest speaker for the ceremony will be retired Air Force Colonel and Commander of Amesbury Veterans of Foreign War Post 2016 Don Roberts, a veteran of Vietnam and Bosnia.
Veterans from all branches of the military and National Guard are strongly encouraged to show their pride in serving our country by marching in the parade. Please wear your uniform if available or some other item that distinguishes you as a veteran (hat, shirt, jacket, etc.). Veterans are now authorized to wear their earned medals and ribbons on their civilian clothing during patriotic events.
For veterans who cannot march, there will be special seating on the field inside Landry Stadium. Please sit on one of these seats and await the arrival of the parade.
In case of rain, the ceremony will be held at Amesbury High School at 10 AM.
