The Hale Farm is hosting a community reading event of Frederick Douglass's famous speech titled "What to the American Slave is the Fourth of July?" The event is part of the Reading Frederick Douglass Together initiative and will feature Nathan Richardson portraying Frederick Douglass. The event is a collaborative effort involving the City of Beverly, North Shore NAACP, Salem United, Waring School, and other organizations. Special guest speakers will also be present.
The Frederick Douglass: Advocate for Equality exhibition from the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History will also be on display at Hale Farm. The exhibition offers insights into Douglass's remarkable life from 1818 to 1895, covering his escape from slavery, his role as an abolitionist, and his unwavering fight for equal rights throughout the Jim Crow era. The exhibition will be available for viewing until July 21, when the house is open.
