Slow Art Day is a worldwide celebration of art that encourages people to look at art SLOWLY. At PEM the goal is to get "inspired not tired." We'll give families fun suggestions and sketching activities to make looking at art slowly a great sharing experience.
Have you ever wondered if there was some way you could recycle styrofoam trays and packaging? Well, there is! Join Newburyport artisan and re-maker Pam Farren teaches techniques to create one-of-a-kind prints using recycled styrofoam trays, paper and ink. Stop by and try your hand at making a miniature work of art! This is a Free program in the Children's Activity Room and all materials are provided, but you're encouraged to bring styrofoam trays from home to use or share.

In partnership with the Imagination Foundation, the Phoenix School will host its annual Cardboard Challenge at Armory Park in Salem. Join in the worldwide celebration of creativity and imagination where everyone is challenged to design and create using cardboard and recycled materials. The Phoenix School Cardboard Challenge is part of a global Day of Play around the world. Make a lantern out of a plastic bottle and tissue paper and then bring it to Santa's arrival at the Hawthorne Hotel and procession down the Essex Street Pedestrian Mall to the Tree Lighting in Lappin Park. Plastic bottles provided or bring your own! SCAM will also be collecting bottles throughout the week, so bring your recycleable plastic bottles down for us!
Mandalas are geometric symbols representing the universe or cosmos, and can be drawn onto many mediums. For this Laughs and Crafts, we will be using acrylic paint and painting our mandalas on smooth stones.
Create a decoupage flower container for your summertime arrangements, and then explore the sanctuary to look for wildflowers and learn the important role butterflies and bees play in producing new flowers. We'll use hand lenses and nets to observe insects and share a butterfly story in the meadow.
