Walk through history at Ravenswood Park! Ravenswood has changed from a main thoroughfare to a forgotten backwoods, and now to our favorite local refuge over time. See the evidence in cellar holes, stonewalls, and carriage paths. Learn the stories of a colorful cast of characters who transformed it into a such special place. Pre-registration requested.

Kids will learn about animal families that live at the IRWS

Spring is a time when many baby animals are born. How much do these animals depend on their families for survival? Come learn how some mammal, bird, amphibian, and insect families will spend their Mother's Day. We will walk through different habitats and investigate which young animals stay with their families and which go it alone.

Jr. Conservationist: My Square Woods Afterschool Program

Young Conservations ages 9-11 will learn abou ecology on Cape Ann!

Spring is a time of renewal and growth. After-school activities include lending a hand with conservation work, eco-splorations, journeying as a waterdrop from land to sea, uncovering secret tales, journaling, mapping/orienteering, and hiking our forest, wetlands, and mountainsides. For kids ages 9-11.

Sail Salem Beginner Program

Sail Salem's Beginner Program is FREE to all kids, but you can only take this program once.

The Beginner class is designed for youths who have never sailed before. This basic, half-day program is available to youths ages 8-18yrs. There are two sessions a day, the “morning session” running 9am-12pm and the “afternoon session” running 1pm-4pm. Students may sign up for either the morning or afternoon sessions but are limited to taking this week long class only once.

Your child will get to plant their own pea seeds, decorate their pea pot, learn how to care for their plant, and create a journal to monitor their plant’s growth just like the students in the story.

Discovery Adventures

Discovery Adventures' Summer Children's Program encourages children ages 8-15 to explore Cape Ann's incredible surroundings by kayak and dive into learning about the local marine life through snorkeling. They will learn and practice all of the safety skills involved with these sports while they enjoy being on the water with friends. This is an incredible way for them to experience the ocean.

Amazing Amphibians

Search for frogs, salamanders and their eggs at Ipswich River Wildlife Sanctuary

Spring is the season when frogs, toads, and salamanders return to the wetlands to lay their eggs. After a short introduction in our Nature Center where we will learn about the life cycles of these amazing creatures, we will search the sanctuary's wetlands and woodlands for amphibians on the move. If we're lucky, we might be able to catch a few of them! We'll also be sure to swing by our vernal pool where we should be able to find large masses of wood frog and spotted salamander eggs.

Follow Footsteps--Animals and a Hermit!

From 1884 – 1917, Mason A. Walton lived a hermit's life in Ravenswood Park

Adventures in Animal Tracking at Ravenswood Park--just like our Hermit did, over 100 years ago!  From 1884 to 1917, Mason Walton lived as a "hermit" in Ravenswood.  He closely observed, wrote, and drew about wildlife and animal behaviors.  He published a book in 1903.  We will walk the hermit's footsteps, share tales from his book, and along the way we will closely observe wildlife signs and determine animal behavior.
