Explore the Ipswich River at dusk. Bring your family and join us for an evening paddle in a canoe as we learn more about the river and some of its inhabitants. Have you ever seen a muskrat swimming or a beaver slapping its tail in alarm? Join us as we look for these elusive mammals and discover some of the clues they leave behind as we make our way along the Ipswich River.

We'll visit tide pools, salt marsh, woodlands, and adjoining fields using hands-on activities as we investigate each habitat.

Meet the Machines

'Meet the Machines' at Appleton Farms will introduce you to farm machines.

Balers and bucket loaders and tractors, oh my! Pack a picnic and spend a summer evening at Appleton Farms meeting our machines. You'll get to climb aboard backhoes, check out manure spreaders and try out the view from our tractors. Afterwards, enjoy music and your picnic brought from home in the stone paddock. When you’ve gotten your fill of machines try your hand at some lawn games or get your face painted. Also make sure to say hello to our goats, sheep, and bunnies in the barnyard! Limited picnic tables will be available, but feel free to bring your own lawn chairs or blankets! We'll have free lemonade and water available for all. Ice cream will be available for sale.

Let’s discover what lives in our tranquil New England ponds by exploring Stearns Pond. Harold Parker has 11 ponds, 9 of which were created by the CCC. An easy to moderate guided hike to one of our many ponds, a different one each week (Harold Parker has 11 ponds, 9 of which were created by the CCC).  A great way to learn about the parks history and resources while getting some exercise.  For ages 6 and up.
