Maritime Gloucester has a wonderful exhibit on display through Monday where you can have an underwater experinece while staying dry! Artist Camilla MacFayden organized and produced the Stock the Tank exhibit using printed material created by members of her collography workshop this Summer.

Collography is an art form where print blocks are created using found materials that are mounted on a rigid substrate. The blocks are then used mechanically or manually to print patterns on another material like fabric, canvas or paper. The resulting print is called a collograph.
Using seaweed harvested on-site, workshop members created stamps to print marine organic patterns on silk charmeuse and organza that are hung in a ring from the ceiling of the boat workshop. The result is a sixteen foot column of silk that is a metaphor for a column of water.
The exhibit is interactive, and you can walk inside it to have an underwater experience complete with printed silk fish that swim around and above you! There are other pieces created by Camilla that change with user interaction and are displayed with objects that were used to print them.
