Deep Sky Tour of the Milky Way

Stars are born, live for eons, and explode in a colorful display of gas & light. Find out more at Ipswich River Wildlife Sanctuary

Stretching high overhead at this time of the year once the sun has fully set and darkness has settled in, from vantage points far removed from light-polluted city skies, is the starry river we call the Milky Way. In the indoor portion of this evening's program, we will go on a photographic tour of the celestial jewels strewn within its starry fields that are best viewed through a telescope. Such so-called deep sky objects include star clusters, stellar nurseries, supernova remnants, and more. Presented by physicist Gary Meehan

Owl Prowl at Stevens-Coolidge

Come to the owl Prowl at the Stevens Coolidge Estate in North Andover, meet an owl and learn to spot them

Enjoy an evening out with the owls. This guided hike will begin in the Stevens-Coolidge Place parking lot located across the street from the property. As the day falls deeper into the night and new animals emerge as others retire, we will walk together through the property in search of screech owls and great horned owls. Flashlights strongly encouraged. Owl Prowls will be held rain, snow or moonshine. Dress for the weather and wear comfortable shoes.

Youth Movie Night: Wolves

Learn about Wolves at this documentary showing at Mass Audubon Joppa Flats Education Center in Newburyport.

The wolf is an amazing survivor in its wild habitat, but human distrust of this predator once pushed it to near extinction. In the documentary, Wolves, we'll meet a pack up-close and learn how environmentalists in the American West worked to protect the wolves and bring them back from the edge of extinction. After the movie, we'll open up the floor to exchange opinions about the wolves. We'll discuss the protection and reintroduction of endangered species, and how the protection of wolves elsewhere can impact protection of rare species in our backyard. Popcorn will be served!

Join the Salem Maritime National Historic Site and Dr. Calvin Mires, Co-Founder and Instructor of Seafaring Education and Maritime Archaeological Heritage Program (SEAMAHP) in bringing maritime heritage to life through hands-on activities. Although we won't actually be practicing archaeology, visitors young and old will have the opportunity to use the tools and methods of archaeological research, survey and documentation.

As the sun warms the ground, you may come across a snake that slithers away before you have a chance to see it.  This is your chance to get up close to see and appreciate these creatures living in our yards and woodlands.  Rick Roth, local snake expert, and founder and Executive Director of Cape Ann Vernal Pond Team, will share some of his favorite snakes and discuss their lives, habits, and care.  Free for Dads today. Rainforest Reptile Shows hosts “Night of Reptiles” Family night! Tickets include a live animal demonstration, dinner, children’s activities, door prizes,silent auction and hands on reptile encounters. Bring your camera! Limited tickets available!  Some of the animals in attendance may include Fred, a 6-foot-long alligator, Venus, a 20-foot-long snake, and even a bird of prey! You will be able to meet, touch, and take your picture with snakes, lizards, turtles, and alligators. This fundraiser is to kick off the premier of Rainforest Reptile Shows new nonprofit RRS OASIS a 501(c)(3).
