Step back into the 1920s during this season’s monthly Open Houses at The Stevens-Coolidge Place. Curious to see the full house? Join the Trustees for full house tours being offered every half hour from 10am to 2pm on a first come, first serve basis. The last house tour will begin around 1:30. The tours will bring you through the whole house and will lead you in the story of Helen and John Coolidge.
Maritime Gloucester is hosting their annual Heritage Day in honor of the Gloucester Schooner Festival 2018. Admission is half price for the day. Maritime Gloucester is creating a busy, festive hub of traditional crafters, engaging community organizations in the First Ipswich Bank Pavilion, expert seafood demonstrations, foot stomping music, impossible magic, schooner sails, and fun-filled family activities on Harbor Loop.
It’s Base Ball, 1861 style at Spencer Peirce Little Farm! These fun, historically accurate games feature underhand pitching and no gloves are allowed. A ball bounced once and caught is an out! Snacks, baseballs, and cards are available for purchase. Come and see for yourself how this game was played in the 1860's.
The Essex Street Fair is a two-day event held in downtown Salem and is part of the Slemn Heritage Festivities! Come visit the Essex Street Fair during Salem Heritage Days to see over 40 vendors, listen to some live music, and enjoy historic Salem. Vendor sales include jewelry, handmade crafts, art, food, and much more! The Essex Street Fair will be held along the Essex Street Pedestrian Mall and you can shop on Saturday & Sunday, August 11 & 12, from 10am-6pm. This event brings thousands of visitors, so you do not want to miss out!
Presented by the Salem Maritime National Historic Site, the annual Salem Maritime Festival in August hosts an exciting array of free family fun festivities, including live music, traditional craft demonstrations and seaport trade exhibits, story-telling, and family fun! Each year, music, demonstrations, exhibits, and children's activities are available throughout the park and on Derby Wharf.
Salem Heritage Days offer a wonderful way for Salem residents and visitors to connect with Salem’s history, art, and cultural scene. House of Seven Gables invites families to learn about sailing the high seas with a variety of family-friendly and hands-on activities. The Family Navigation Game is offered daily from 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. The Living History Labs hands-on history experience will take place daily from 10:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 – 4:00 p.m.
Maudslay State Park actually has a pet cemetery! The Moseley family enjoyed their many pets and established an area of the estate specifically for them. The park interpreter will lead a walk to this area and share stories and photos of their four-footed friends. Wear comfortable walking shoes and bring water. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
Olde Fashioned Sunday in Downtown Newburyport will be a great day to remember the beginnings of our Yankee Homecoming celebrations. We can enjoy some “new” events so as to make future memories for the current younger generations as the past has given some of us the “good ole’ days” to remember. Olde Fashioned Sunday 2017 begins on the stage with the opportunity to show the audience your favorite pets. Every person and pet is a winner in this event. The formal opening of Yankee Homecoming will include the introduction of all the past chairperson and the singing of the national anthem.
On the last weekend of July, artisans and fine craftsfolk from all over New England will show and sell their work on the South Village Green in Ipswich, MA. Olde Ipswich Days is a favorite for all to meet and greet old friends and new, browse the booths and do some early holiday shopping, or make some timely indulgences. The fair features the works of more than 60 artists and crafters. Look for sterling, gold, or beaded jewelry, unusual photography, woodwork, knitted textiles, dried flowers and grapevines, cut or stained glass, tapestry, a variety of pottery, and paintings in all mediums, toys, and handmade soaps, and hot dogs and refreshments.
