Ravenswood Park served as a main thoroughfare in the days before modern roads.

Ravenswood Park has been transformed over the centuries, from a main thoroughfare to a backwoods and to our favorite local refuge today. On this guided walk, we'll see the evidence of this spectacular transformation, and learn the stories of a colorful cast of characters who help make Ravenswood Park the unique and special place we all treasure. Stop by as part of CoastSweep and see our latest celebrities in our touch tank!

Stop by before or after volunteering for COASTSWEEP or just stop in for a full day of fun activities that celebrate the health of our coastline. We'll have live tide pool animals, guided salt marsh walks, and interactive science to help you learn about everything from whales to the wrack line.

Surfcasting Clinic

Crane's Beach in Ipswich is an excellent spot to try fishing in the surf.

Here's a great opportunity to hit the beach and learn a fun new skill with family members. There you can check out and try striper fishing in the surf. Area fishermen will be available Saturday mornings in June to teach the next generation of surfcasters the finer points of surfcasting at Crane Beach.

Let’s Explore Nature Walk

Explore the trails of Maudslay State Park and the creatures that live there!

Join the Maudslay Park park interpreter for this free program to explore the natural resource aspects of Maudslay State Park. Using nets, critter tanks and hand lenses, we offer a different “theme” each time to explore the fascinating life that exists everywhere under our noses. Comfortable walking shoes and bug spray is recommended.

Beachcombers

Kids 4-8 can explore the dunes and water's edge of Crane's Beach on this walk.

Beachcombers is a guided walk for kids, where game play leads to fun ways to learn about the beach and dunes. Each week, the subject is varied to encourage weekly participation from beach goers. Join us this summer for a beach adventure!

Eco-Art: Summer Safari

Join us for a safari at IRWS as we search for frogs, turtles, snakes and toads!

Hike the Rockery safari style in search of snakes, turtles, frogs, and toads. Using paint and found objects, we will create and decorate a toad house for you to bring home and place in your garden.

Tide Pool Discoveries at Parker River: 07.25.11

Kids will explore the tidal pools of Parker River with a park ranger

For generations children have enjoyed exploring tide pools and discovering the fascinating plants and animals that live in this realm between the tides. A refuge ranger will guide this hands-on session.

Eco-Art: Owls

Become a natural biologist and explore the world of owls at IRWS

Become a wildlife biologist as we hike the trails to see where owls live. We'll learn about their habitats, view owl mounts, and dissect a real owl pellet to discover what they eat. On our return, we will create an owl collage from natural materials.

National Trails Family Fun Day

National Trails Family Fun Day at Ward Reservation

The Friends of The Andover Trails Committee and The Trustees of Reservations celebrate National Trails Family Fun Day. This tear will feature live music, guided hikes, letterboxing, an 'edible plant' guided hike, along with exhibits on woodcarving, and geocaching (bring a GPS unit if you have one), Nordic walking (poles will be available to borrow) and more! Fun for everyone.
