This parent/child program is designed for the creative, curious, and active preschooler who loves animals. Each 90-minute session offers a structured series of activities including original songs, movement, dramatic play, hands-on science, and a thematic snack. You'll receive coloring pages, song lyrics, vocabulary, a fun fact sheet, and a suggested reading list in an electronic goody bag!
Theater in the Open hosts their Summer Arts Workshop is a fun-filled, out-door, adventurous way to learn and grow at Maudslay State Park in Newburyport. Living on the coast is a constant reminder of the beauty and power of the Atlantic Ocean. Isn't it interesting that our mighty seas are also fragile and need protection? Come to Joppa Flats for a full day of indoor activities and exhibits that focus on our ocean giants and creatures of the deep. Find out where our seafood comes from, how people can collect energy from the ocean, and how to protect our oceans and coastline as they show signs of change.
Joppa Flats Education Center Staff is invites you and your family for a night hike to celebrate the Spring equinox, the celestial event that marks the true beginning of spring. As the sun sets, we'll search for signs of spring in the forest and field and use some tricks for investigating nature at night. We'll end the evening around a toasty fire pit with blankets and treats while sharing legends about the seasons and constellations.
Celebrate the irrational and infinite number of pi and Einstein’s birthday with a special Pi(e) party. Bring your friends. For kids in Grades 6-12. Please contact Emely, Teen Services Librarian, with questions.
Why do we have seasons? Why is it hotter in summer and colder in winter? What is wind? How is it measured? How do clouds form? Where do snowflakes come from and why do they fall to Earth? Join us for fun, interactive learning activities to answer these questions about wind, weather, and snow. Learn how to make your own weather vane. Be a snowflake engineer (with the help of toothpicks and marshmallows) and take your tasty construction home!

Let's celebrate winter as we look at this beautiful season through storybooks, art, and music. Weather permitting, we'll take a riverside walk in Joppa Flats' backyard and experience the frozen artistry of the season. Later we'll create artwork that reminds us of the winter joys we found together.
Every body can do it... Join us for a fun start to Tri season. This is a unique, mostly indoor event featuring a 10-minute swim in our indoor lap pool, a 25-minute cycle on a state of the art spin bike, and a 1.5 mile run outdoors on the picturesque Clipper City Rail Trail. Create a team of friends or family! One biker, one swimmer, one runner or any combination. Space is limited!
