Kids and families are invited to come explore the Ecology of the back yard with naturalists from the Joppa Flats Education Center in Newburyport.

It is summer! Join us in the riverside yard at Joppa Flats to learn about wildlife in the salt marsh, pond, rocky shore, and backyard habitats! You'll identify wild creatures, design small habitats, participate in small group challenges, and more. Sign up for one or all and see nature through the lens of a naturalist!

Seal Walk with the Seacoast Science Center

Join MRWC and naturalists from Marine Mammal Rescue at the Seacoast Science Center to observe harbor seals at Salisbury Beach.

Join MRWC and naturalists from Marine Mammal Rescue at the Seacoast Science Center to observe harbor seals at Salisbury Beach. The lack of boat traffic in the winter allows for greater seal activity close to shore. Our group will be viewing these seals from a safe distance of at least 150 feet away. After introductions, we will walk together a short distance to where the seals are hauled out.

Farm Adventures Summer Enrichment Program

Summer Programs for kids at Spencer-Peirce Little Farm in Newbury Massachusetts

Children learn how to care for and interact with our farm animals while discovering the wonders of the 230 acre Spencer-Peirce-Little Farm. In addition, each day brings a special event, including yoga, plein air painting, dog day, arts and crafts, and more. On Friday afternoon, we have prime seats for Circus Smirkus, right here at the farm*! Pack a lunch and get ready for an adventure. For Kids ages 9-12.

In honor of Earth Day, raptor rehabilitator and educator Jane Kelly, of On the Wing, will present a live raptor program in the refuge visitor center auditorium.  Audience members will have a very special opportunity to view a variety of live birds of prey, while Jane provides an overview of their natural history.  Space is limited for this program and preregistration is required.  Send an email to parkerriver@fws.gov and write “raptor program” on the subject line.  P
