U. S. National Park Service hosts a 45 minute slide lecture will be provided in the auditorium on gardens of the Colonial period, from early settlement until the time of the Revolution. The purposes of these gardens, popular garden styles and layouts, and a selection of popular and useful plants, will be among the topics discussed.
The Salem CultureFest 2014 will feature live bands who showcase many cultures and styles, as well as other performers (TBA) who will entertain you while you enjoy exploring the unique arts, crafts, and wares of our areas finest artists and crafters. Over 2000 visitors are expected to attend this fun family-friendly event.
Join a ranger in a short walk down a nature trail, as we discuss different plant and animal adaptations for living in a tidal riparian zone. Learn about some of the different plant and animal species that call the Saugus River home, and come see why it makes a great habitat for a diverse array of species. You do not have access to view this node invites families to meet their volunteer workers at the farm - the lambs! They don't get paid for what they do, but they do lots of work at GMF. They arrived a couple weeks ago and have been dutifully eating the winter rye in the front field. Converting plant material into manure just where we need it is an invaluable job. They also happen to be terribly cute, so that helps. Come and meet them officially during Meet the Lambs Day. There will be a craft in the Farmstand and Mrs. Green will be on hand to talk about the sheepies out in the field.

Learn about the life of a chicken on our farm and welcome our newest additions to the farm menagerie, the chicks! There will be free crafts and an out door scavenger hunt if the weather allows. This event is free and open to the public.
All kinds of bugs live in our backyards, including butterflies! At this family fly-by kids will learn about butterflies' and bugs' lives, their births, their diets and their survival skills. Join us at Joppa Flats Education Center for a magnified look into their bug sized world!
