DCR hosts a live animal demonstration at Halibut Point State Park to celebrate Earth Day! Live frogs, turtles, and salamanders, our vernal pond ambassadors, will visit Halibut Point with Cape Ann Vernal Pond Team. Get up close to these animals and learn about their behaviors and habitats. Come learn what birds are returning after spending the winter months in the warm south. Equipped with binoculars, let's see how many different colors, sizes and sounds of birds we can find. We'll observe nests and attempt to build one of our own!
Join the Trustees on Saturday April 20th to celebrate Earth Day on the farm! Neighbors, families, and community members will work together to clean up the farm, complete barnyard projects, restore the chicken enclosure, clean up trails, split and stack wood, assist with property enhancements, and get their hands dirty to care for the great outdoors. We have limited space for volunteers, so sign up soon!
Come to a Cape Ann Vernal Pond Team presentation at Halibut Point State Park to get an up-close view and learn all about vernal pond creatures you may find in your own backyard. Live vernal pond animals will visit Halibut Point with educator Rick Roth of the Cape Ann Vernal Pond Team.
Volunteers ages 5 and up are welcome to participate in a clean-up of the Joppa Flats salt marsh! The tide will be low, so we can access all the debris that has been brought in by recent storms. This is a wonderful opportunity to become involved in helping to protect one of the valuable natural resources here on the North Shore of Massachusetts.
As you explore the beach, what do you notice that doesn’t belong? Marine debris impacts beaches and marine life worldwide, so what can we do about it? Join this program to learn about types, sources, and impacts of marine debris, observe microplastics, and learn how scientists and community members (like you!) are studying marine debris and taking action to tackle the issue of trash in our fragile marine environments.
The Essex County Greenbelt Association welcomes you to join them at the Book Shop of Beverly Farms to celebrate Earth Day! Pick up a copy of Greenbelt's Bring Along Family Nature Guide featuring 15 activity filled hikes on the North shore. There will also be hands on activities for kids in the store.
Spring has sprung! Celebrate Earth Day with Sawyer Free Library Children's Services and Ms. Frizzle of the Magic School Bus! Ms. Frizzle presents an interactive & fun program about planting, gardening, and saving the beautiful planet Earth! This morning of fun is ideal for young children ages 3 and up and their families. This event will be held at 70 Middle Street, Trinity Church, right behind the library & no registration is needed.
In honor of Earth Day, raptor rehabilitator and educator Jane Kelly, of On the Wing, will present a live raptor program in the refuge visitor center auditorium. Audience members will have a very special opportunity to view a variety of live birds of prey, while Jane provides an overview of their natural history.
