Following three special PEM Pals collaborations, Salem’s Public Artist in Residence Claudia Paraschiv continues to explore how children can contribute to culture. “The Tree of Care+Wonder: Through a Child’s Lens” imagines how a future city might take care of and bring wonder to its residents.
For three days, this annual family friendly art festival transforms downtown Salem into an opportunity for the arts community to showcase their talents. The popular free event will feature many artists and performers, and includes a variety of art, music, dance, and theatre performances. The family-friendly festival also includes art-making for all ages, artisan vendors selling their creations, and a temporary public art installation.

Music representing the moods of the four seasons has always been popular and many composers have produced cycles of concertos representing the seasons. But none were to do so in such precise detail as Antonio Vivaldi, who used four sonnets of his own creation as a descriptive base for his beloved masterpiece. During this unique program, we will explore and illustrate each season following the sonnets and music together, providing a fun and educational prospective culminating in a virtuosic performance. The guest soloist will be violinist Keila Wakao.

Kids ages 13-17 are encouraged to enroll in a week long intensive program focused on theater acting techniques during February Vacation week! During this week, each individual will have the opportunity to explore improvisation, theatre games, and delve into an intense, week-long rehearsal process for Disney’s High School Musical. They will be educated in music, acting, and dance all while working towards three final performances on Friday, February 24th at 7:00 PM, Saturday, February 25th at 7:00 PM and Sunday, February 26th at 2:00 PM.
The Art of Racial Justice. Please join members of the YWCA of Greater Newburyport for the 30th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. celebration on: Thursday, January 12, 2023, 6:00 pm at the Newburyport Senior Center, 331 High Street in Newburyport. This event will feature artists from Elevated Thought; they will help audience members reflect on quotations from “The Trumpet of Conscience”, Dr. King’s last work before his assassination on April 4, 1968. The artists will lead discussions sessions and will guide groups of attendees in creating art that reflects sentiments in the quotations.
As the holiday season rapidly approaches, North Atlantic Ballet welcomes back their annual telling of The Nutcracker. Artistic Director Lucy Warren-Whitman consistently brings the stage to life with her contemporary twist on Clara’s journey to The Land Of Sweets. Audiences delight each year in new choreography, guest appearances, creative costumes, and of course our local children’s cast dancing alongside NAB’s seasoned company dancers.
