MIT Museum: Nautical Night

Nautical Night 2017 at MIT is a night of exploration at the MIT Museum!

MIT Museum invites you for an evening of nautically-themed science and engineering! The museums annual Nautical Night event celebrates the sea, and MIT’s rich history in nautical design and research. We’ve planned interactive demonstrations, short talks, and a rare chance to view plans and prints from our renowned collection. Visit from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. for this free event. Here’s a sampling of what you’ll find:

Moving to the Music Mini-Fest at Peabody Essex Museum

Events and things to do in Salem MA

Discover how movement and music can create and tell stories at Peabody Essex Museum. Interact and engage with performers from New Repertory Theatre's Classic Repertory Company. Get to know the string instrument family in a workshop and informal concert. Followed by a string instrument "petting zoo" for budding virtuosos. Create your own star projector to transform any wall into the night sky. Get active and explore sequences of movements to create and tell a story inspired by the moon.

CAM Kids: Mini Musicians

 Cape Ann Museum hosts a family friendly session where attendees can try their hand at making their own musical instruments

With February vacation coming to a close, families looking for an enriching activity to get them out of the house are invited to the Cape Ann Museum’s Activity Center to try their hand at instrument making using recycled items, followed by an intimate musical experience with Kathleen and Jeremy Adams. The midday mini-concert & instrument demonstration portion of the program will be performed on the Adams harpsichord and chamber organ in the special exhibition, Voicing the Woods: Jeremy Adams, Instrument Maker, on view at the Cape Ann Museum from October 22, 2016 through February 26, 2017. Families are invited to join in with their newly fashioned musical creations.

The Harvard Museum of Natural History celebrates the love of science and invites you to join in! !

Explore the marvelous science of our natural world in this annual daylong festival featuring dozens of activities. Dig into the soil to see what’s there, watch live marine creatures, design a LEGO® brick home for an insect, investigate fossils, explore the Glass Flowers, and more! Awaken your love of science with activities led by Harvard scientists, graduate students, and enthusiastic explorers. Hear short talks on current research at Harvard. I ♥ Science has something for everyone and is appropriate for children and adults of all ages.

Meet Children's Author Julia Walsh

See the world of nature through the eyes of Julie as she watches an orphaned duckling learn about perseverance, all while she learns lessons of love.

Join local author Julia Walsh for a reading and book signing of Wings on the Wind, a new children’s book based upon a true story.  Ms. Walsh will also lead us in an art making activity.  Copies of the book will be available for purchase in the Wenham Museum Shop.

CMNH: Books Alive: Pete the Cat

Childrens Museum of New Hampshire

Pete the Cat, that groovy feline who likes to sing his songs as he goes along, will be visiting the Children’s Museum of New Hampshire to greet young fans and help promote the love of reading! Books Alive seeks to make reading a regular family experience. Museum educators will be reading these fun and colorful books, written by Eric Litwin and illustrated by James Dean, throughout the day. A friendly costumed Pete the Cat will pop in and out to greet children, exchange a hug or high-five and pose for photos. There will also be a variety of Pete-the-Cat-inspired literacy, math and creative activities for all guests.

Free with Museum admission.

 Cape Ann Museum hosts a family friendly performance by Cape Ann Improv!

What happens when history and fine art meet improv and silliness? Bring the kids and find out for yourself when Cape Ann Improv performs at the Cape Ann Museum. The arts and objects on display in the galleries will provide the inspiration for scenes and characters for interactive improvisational games throughout the Museum. Discover the art, history and culture of Cape Ann and have a good laugh with the talented and witty Cape Ann Improv performers.

Saturday Showcase: Composer Robert Bradshaw presents Aesop’s Fables

Composer and musician Robert Bradshaw conducts a string trio in this series of compositions inspired by Aesop’s Fables.  The Saturday Showcase series spotlights the performing arts with content related to the art, history and culture of Cape Ann. Thematic presentations are often supplemented with drop-in art and history activities in the CAM Activity Center. Free and open to the public. This program is made possible by the Goldhirsh Foundation.

Veteran's Day at Cape Ann Museum

 Cape Ann Museum hosts a family friendly concert based on Katy and the Big Snow!

The Museum will have an ongoing video program in the auditorium featuring images from the Civil War to Vietnam with a voice-over of letters written home by soldiers. Also offered on Veteran’s Day is will be a special military-themed tour at 2:00 pm looking at items from the museum collection like a cannon ball that was fired into the facade of the First Parish Unitarian Church of Gloucester in 1775.
