Lights, Camera, Nature!

Kids will learn about ecology, film-making and working in teams in this workshop

Lights, Camera, Nature! is a nature filmmaking class for kids ages 9-12! We will venture into the nearby wilds with a professional naturalist and a local filmmaker. Kids will explore the wildlife and capture the action on their cameras. When finished with shooting they will work in a small team to craft a fun story, then use simple editing software to create and edit their movie.

Gloucester Stage Youth Acting Workshops starts the Summer Session of Acting Workshops for children ages 6 to 18 on Friday, July 12. The six week Youth Acting Workshop Summer Session, meets on Fridays for two hours per week from July 12 - August 16 and the students are divided in classes according to age. Class size is limited for all classes and registration is on a first come basis.

The Cape Ann Community Cinema hosts a fundraiser featuring a presentation of films by local children and the new documentary 'Project Wild Thing'! Kestrel Educational Adventures will first present films created by their 7-10 year old Nature Film Making Students, followed by a showing of this BRAND new documentary from Great Britain that encourages people to get outside and reconnect with nature!

When it comes to understanding our wild critter friends, we may be more in the dark than bats — and Tom French, of Massachusetts Fisheries and Wildlife, is just the man to enlighten us. At 6:30 on Tuesday, October 29, the Gloucester Garden Club will present a Halloween special talk given by French on bats, our helpful little friends, at Sawyer Free Library. The only flying mammals, known by their scientific name Chiroptera, bats vastly improve our lives by eating up to half their weight in insects each night.
