Downtown Salem comes alive with art for the fifth annual Salem Arts Festival

For three days, this annual family friendly art festival transforms downtown Salem into an opportunity for the arts community to showcase their talents. Now in its fifth year, the festival celebrates all the arts: painting, photography, sculpture, dance, music, writing, film, new media, performance, theater, poetry, culinary, etc. in a free city-wide arts festival. Programs for all ages!

Camp Pirate

Pirate Camp is a fun play where anything can happen!

Go down by the sea and cast off with Theater Workshop’s production of Camp Pirate...Anything Can Happen! The whole family can set sail with a ship full of wacky pirates for an on stage summer camp experience. The hilarity unfolds as the buccaneers once again set out on an adventure in search of their missing captain. Wise-cracking fish and a story-telling turtle help reveal the mystery of spell-casting mermaids, dancing witch-doctors, and juggling monkeys on Coconut Island. With dazzling costumes, high energy dances and show stopping surprises.... anything can happen!

METG Drama Festival Preliminary Competition

Eight area high schools perform one-act plays at the Ipswich Performing Arts Cen

This METG Drama Festival Preliminary Competition will be held at the Ipswich Performing Arts Center om March 2, 2013!. Eight local schools will perform one act plays in a competetion to go on to the next round in the statewide drama festival. The Massachusetts High School Festival is the METG’s premier event. The festival includes 115 one-act plays produced by member high schools.

'Maudslay is Haunted' is an annual fundraiser for Theater in the Open

Maudslay is Haunted is a North Shore Kid favorite! We highly recommend this for Halloween fun for all ages! Theater in the Open host their notorious annual haunting of Maudslay! Join a cast of all ages for a one-hour walk through eerie vignettes, spooky sketches and haunting scenes, all in the autumn grandeur of Maudslay State Park. Discover parts of the park you never knew existed. Bring the whole family for a variety of tricks and treats.

Family Hour in the Open

TitO presents story telling, dance, and fairy tale theater in a picnic setting

Theater in the Open invites you to bring the kids, the dog, and the picnic blanket out to beautiful Maudslay State Park! The third Saturday of every warm month, we will be joined by many of our friends in the community to present storytelling, song, dance, fairytale-theater and a fun group activity, all right here in the park and all entirely free!

Little Red Robin Hood: A Merry Manly Panto!

Theater in the Open's Little Red Robin hood is a classic tale montage!

Theater in the Open welcomes you back to the exciting upside-down world of Panto! This year we take you deep into Sure-Would Forest in a mash-up of these classic tales, where Merry Men and Wary Wolves abound! When Robin Hood's nephew Will Scarlett and Little Red Riding Hood are each sent running errands through the forest, paths-crossing turns into cross-dressing and a very silly adventure of mistaken identity ensues. Come boo the mean old Sherriff of Snottingham and cheer on Scarlett and Little Red in this zany show for all ages!
