Stage Fort Park is one of the most visited spaces in Gloucester, and for good reason. It's beautiful and it provides fields, playground and tables for everyone to enjoy. To protect this incredible resource, we need to do our part. This Hands Across the Sand event and cleanup will bring people together to oppose new offshore drilling and other fossil fuel development and promote a clean energy future! We will gather just before noon for a non-hand holding lineup photo along the shore in solidarity with people around the globe on this day, calling for an end to offshore drilling! We look forward to seeing you out there.
Everybody loves Fireflies! Mass Audubon has been coordinating the Firefly Watch community science project since taking over from the Museum of Science in 2018. Counting firefly flashes is fun, but we are ready to think bigger. Firefly Watch Pro, the next step to our existing project, asks you to get you up close to the fireflies, photograph them to identify specific genera, and provide flash pattern data that might help us identify the species in your habitat. This additional data will help us learn what fireflies live where, and over time will give us a sense of population change for specific species and genera.
Each year during Earth Week, DCR invites volunteers to Massachusetts state parks to take part in stewardship activities to prepare for the busy spring and summer recreation season. Celebrate by being part of Park Serve on April 23! Use the links below to find a Park Serve Day near you!
As part of COASTSWEEP Beach Cleanup, volunteers are encouraged to help in the statewide effort to keep our coastline clean along the shore in Beverly Massachusetts. Trash collected will be measured and analyzed, and the data will be sent to Washington DC to aid the government in creating legislation to minimize trash in our oceans! This specific cleanup is coordinated by Salem Sound Coastwatch. Topics will include what gear you will need, what to use for bait and lures, how to find a spot that may hold fish, and the best tides and times to go.
Come to Cape Ann Art Haven for some buoy painting fun! Join us to paint buoys for the 2019 Bluefin Blowout, benefiting the Alzheimer's Association. This is a free event, and all ages are welcome! Buoys have generously been provided by Three Lantern Marine & Fishing.
